We ordered a Buttercream Heart Shaped Cake. Initially, when we picked up the cake we were amazed. It looked beautiful, and exactly like the inspiration photo we showed them.
Unfortunately, it stopped there. When we went to serve the cake, we were extremely disappointed. We followed all instructions on proper storing of the cake before serving.
The cake itself, was super wet and lacked any flavour - I couldn’t even tell you what flavour it was because it didn’t taste like anything. Upon cutting the cake, it immediately began losing shape because of how wet the cake was. I think maybe the bakery froze the cake before giving it to us?
The icing in between each layer, also lacked any flavour and resembled melting cream cheese.
The “butter cream” I am convinced they forgot to put sugar. It has no taste, and lacked any sweetness of flavour. It truly tasted like “whipped salted butter” it had absolutely no sweetness, taste or sugar to it.
We were left horrified, as not a single one of our 30+ guests took more than one bite of their cake before throwing it aside. Thankfully we had other cupcakes and treats to serve.
We didn’t want to post this review, and attempted to contact the owner/manager, but were never responded too. I spoke to a staff member at the shop who basically told me the owner had no interest in hearing us out - to be clear, at no point had I even requested a refund. I just wanted to explain our disappointment.
We followed up 3 times (1 email, 2 phone calls) and heard nothing. One staff member did elude to the idea that we must be wrong, because they received no other complaints that day from other orders? Not sure the relevance.
Super disappointed, more so with the lack of response from mgmt/owners.
To be clear, this cake cost over $90! I’ve had better tasting $20 cakes from Metro! I unfortunately cannot recommend this establishment, despite living so close and being so excited about a finding a new bakery.
